About Varvese

Varvese is a cultural initiative focused on celebrating the stories, art, culture, music, design, technology, landscapes, and cultures of native people across Africa. Varvese hosts the Stories, Poems, and Lullabies (SPoL) library, an archive of lullabies, poems and stories passed down from generation to generation in traditional communities.

About the SPoL Library

Many tribes, the Tiv of Nigeria for instance, have a primarily oral tradition for recording and passing down information.

Welcome to the Stories, Poems and Lullabies Library.

These tribes and traditional cultures have a rich oral tradition with uniquely crafted stories. These stories, poems and lullabies impart wisdom, are a historical archive of family, clan and cultural information and hold clues to the beliefs and worldviews of peoples. The library merges history, storytelling and technology in a bid to preserve a more permanent record of predominantly oral cultural artifacts. In the spirit of the West African Griot, this archive provides a platform for people to experience, contribute to collation, and provide an interactive exploration of traditional lullabies, poems, and stories.
